Competence:
Teaching
The Chair of Computer Aided Design and Geo-informatics provides the students with first to fundamental knowledge of computer skills and later to basic application of computers to architectural, construction and urban design scenarios. It focuses on the creation of better architecture, more sustainable designs and livable cities through the help and application of up to date computer applications.
The Chair of CAD and Geo-informatics introduces students to pixel and vector based software such as –AutoCAD,revit architecture.GIS, adobe packages and other computer applications which are basic for conceptualization, deisgnining, drafting, construction, estimating, surveying, presentation and the like. the chair also introduces basic cad and graphics software to the students which will enable them to carry out and present their design works at the university level and for their future endeavor.
courses:
Communication skills 2-4 (Architecture and COTM)
CAD (URBAN)
GIS courses(URBAN)
Surveying courses (Architecture, COTM)

Research:

The chair of CAD and Geo-informatics studies the impact of BIM- current software on the construction progress of the country. As a supporting chair, it has involved itself in almost all the research areas. The staff members are involved as presenters, modelers, simulators and animators.

current research activities:

  • The significance of Autodesk REVIT-BIM in Ethiopian construction scenario- pros and cons.
  • BIM-Revit architecture training under construction.

Services and consultancy

The chair shall give assistances to other research and consultancy works to be carried out by other chairs, this covers all areas of presentation, conceptualization and simulation of projects by employing up-to-date AEC software packages,it also carry out training of computer aided design and drafting software inside the institute and outside.it also strives for the modern technical scenario of the globe to be applied in the institute and the country. The availability of technical and modern equipment such as 3d printers and model makers, digitizing machines etc are mandatory to the development of the institute and the chair plays an influential role in consultancy and installation and rendering services for the institute to keep the institute up to date.
